Elkins approves the awarding of a Bachelor of Music degree (April 9, 1949)  A three-judge federal court denies the request of Texas Western College to remove the Thelma White anti-segregation lawsuit to a higher court, noting that school segregation issues were a “trivial” matter in the wake of Brown v. Board of Education, (April 11 1955), SB 183—the bill approving the creation of a school of mines in El Paso—is signed into law by the governor of Texas and is slated to become effective in 90 days and upon the purchase of the El Paso Military Institute (April 13, 1913).  Learn more in the UTEP Encyclopedia.
