Most area residents of El Paso and surrounding areas are fully aware that city council has decided to pass the demolishing plans of the current city council building as well as the building of the new AAA baseball stadium in the area, this has been seen as an unnecessary move on behalf of the involved investors as well as the city being that we already have Cohen Stadium (as seen by many) but today while listening to the radio an expert in city development and stadium placement, who had much influence in the development of Cohen Stadium, brought up an interesting point. If all major cities have been investing in revitalizing certain areas with baseball stadiums, it is not because there is a preference for one sport or one type of venue, but rather the trend that there is much higher economic growth and development around a baseball stadium, rather than a football field or an arena, because of the length of the normal sports season and the trend to follow the constant flow of commerce, take for example the Gas Lamp Quarters in San Diego, home of the Padres, and surrounded by many hotels, one of which is a no more than five year old Hard Rock hotel and night club. Hopefully we can all enjoy the growth of El Paso and bring more industry into the city.
